I have read lately that there is a group of religious fanatics protesting the funeral of American Soldiers.
I don't care about why they are doing it because they do not have a good enough excuse.
Giving your life for your country is the highest honor you can give.
The American military has always paid this honor back with our funeral ceremonies. Our military honors our dead in such a degree that it is unmatched by every other country in the world.
Thousands upon thousands of men and women have given their lives freely so that we can live ours in the way we best choose to live them.
I am not a political sort of person and as general rule I don't keep up with the news. I am, however, two things; I am a Christian and I am an American. My faith in my God is absolute and the God that I worship does not Hate anything. Being American means that I have proudly served with my brother and sisters in the military.
For a group to protest a funeral and hide behind the First Amendment (a right that the people they are protesting gave unto them) is cowardice.
If you want to twist the word of the Lord, that's fine.
If you want to protest the Military than do it to a soldier that is still living - give him the chance to defend himself.
If you want to twist the word of the Lord and protest the greatest military tradition that can be preformed from any given individual and then hide behind the constitution--GET THE HELL OUT OF THE COUNTRY!!!
I have lost many family members and great many friends. All of them have given their lives so that I can live mine.
I am proud to be a Christian!
I am proud to be an American!
I am proud to be a Veteran!
And I will be damned if I will sit idle and let some morons destroy all the we (America) have worked so hard to build.
Beware. Should I see anyone protesting a funeral (especially in the name of God)-You will meet God right then and right there.
I see this is an older post, but it's my first time reading it. It was very well written and I agree with all of it. My husband is a veteran, but I don't think you need to be in the military to be disgusted by people dishonoring the dead and upsetting bereaved family members and friends. Whatever your complaint, there's a time and a place and that isn't it. Billi
